Type Here is an Aotearoa poster competition that showcases our distinct approaches to contemporary typography. Foregrounding risk-taking and experimentation, the recurring exhibition attracts a range of emerging to established designers from across Australasia. Aotearoa is a place rich in storytelling — from epic mythologies to emotional journeys — each providing distinct vantage points for considering the complex histories that form our national identity. Type Here celebrates these stories, expressed through language, culture, and typography.

The theme for this year's campaign has been developed in collaboration between the winner of the first Type Here competition, Kaan Hiini, and creative agency Osborne Shiwan. Framed by the whakataukī ‘ko te mahi a te tamariki, he wāwāhi tahā’ (the activities of children break calabashes), the theme Wāwāhia Te Tahā (Break The Calabash) speaks to the inquisitive nature of tamariki as they explore the world and its objects, necessarily breaking precious items within it along the way.

Proudly showcasing 36 entries from across Aotearoa, this year's finalists were selected by previous winners Chris Flack, Sonia Mijatov, Sheahan Huri, and Tana Mitchell, along with International Judge Valentina Casali, convened by Kaan Hiini and Shabnam Shiwan.
