Chasing the Sun Stone is an exhibition of work developed by Gregory Thomas and Shelley Simpson in response to their respective art residencies in Iceland. From February - April 2025 Thomas was at Skaftfell Art Center in Seyðisfjörður, while in May 2025 Simpson was at The Creative Center in Stöðvarfjörður. Both residencies are only a few hours' drive from each other on the east coast of Iceland.
Chasing the Sun Stone includes works both made in Iceland and completed in Tāmaki Makaurau in response to their experiences abroad. The exhibition spans an array of lens-based imaging; from analogue cyanotype, lumen, and pinhole photography, to intaglio, risograph, and screen-prints, as well as moving image.
